What Molecular Hydrogen Is

The Smallest Molecule.

Hydrogen-infused water has been the subject of growing scientific interest over the past decade. Researchers have explored the properties of molecular hydrogen (H₂) and its potential role in supporting overall wellness and balance within the body. Research is ongoing.

H₂ is the smallest, simplest molecule — two hydrogen atoms. In water, H₂ is the smallest and lightest molecule, two hydrogen atoms bonded together. In water, molecular hydrogen exists as a dissolved gas and contributes no sugar or calories. That's part of why researchers are interested in how easily it may distribute through the body, compared to larger dissolved compounds.

Research Questions

The Science, Answered.

Does hydrogen water actually work?

There's a growing body of peer-reviewed research studying molecular hydrogen's effects, including in areas like inflammation markers and exercise recovery. Research is ongoing and results vary by study design — ICON doesn't claim the product itself treats, cures, or prevents anything.

Is hydrogen water safe to drink daily?

Molecular hydrogen is a dissolved gas, not a stimulant or additive with known safety limits at the concentrations used in beverages like this. As with any dietary choice, talk to your doctor if you have specific health concerns.

What's the difference between hydrogen water and alkaline water?

They're different mechanisms — alkaline water is about pH level, hydrogen water is about dissolved H₂ gas. A can can be both, but they're not the same thing.

How is molecular hydrogen different from regular dissolved gas in water?

H₂ is a much smaller molecule, which is part of why researchers are interested in how easily it may distribute through the body.

Are these studies about ICON specifically, or about hydrogen water generally?

These are studies of molecular hydrogen and hydrogen-rich water as a category, not clinical trials of the ICON product itself — that distinction is why claims on this site are framed as "studied" or "potential," not guaranteed outcomes.

Has the FDA evaluated these claims?

No. See the full Disclaimer — none of the statements on this site have been evaluated by the FDA, and ICON is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Where can I read the actual studies?

Every study cited on this page links directly to its source on PubMed or PMC — nothing is summarized without a link back to the original research.
